AcuLaser C1100 Reports Cover B is open

Problem:

Hi im looking for some help, my printer when switched on reports that cover B is OPEN, I have checked for jammed paper etc, nothing there at all.

Do you think its a sensor thats blown, or dirty? The printer is only 1 year old and has not had a lot of paper printed from it.

Any ideas on how i can resolve this issue and get my printer working again would be helpful.

Best guess would be that the lever on the sensor for the cover that is reported as open has got bent.

Get yourself a service manual from

and find where the sensor is that is affected. Visually inspect it and ensure it works when the cover is opened/closed.

CX11 Service Required Error E521

Problem:

I'd like to know if anyone has seen this particular error or knows the meaning of it on the CX11NF.

I am unable to clear the error. I beleive it may be an engine type error based on the noise at startup.

The input of 2nd BTR Retract Sensor does not change when 2nd BTR is initialized.

Epson CX6600 "Parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life" Error

Problem:

After cleaning and running a nozzle check I still had a clog so I cleaned it again, up popped an error message, the paper jam and the ink buttons both are flashing and the green power light goes out. ( the error message says parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life call epson).I tried the suggestion for the cx6600 but I have noticed that the buttons on the r1800 are not the same and it has not worked for me. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

This is a very common message on ALL Epson ink jets. The printer has a "protection" counter inside which monitors the amount of ink pumped into the waste pads in the base of the machine. After a while the counter will hit it's pre-determined limit and light up like a christmas tree and stop you from printing any more.

MANY repair centres will tell you (and I believe even Epson have said) this error is not worth fixing.

Well it is and it's SOOOOooooooo easy.

What you need is a piece of software to reset the counter, some instruction on how to dismantle the printer to get to the waste pads, and more instructions on how to clean the pads.

Epson CX6400 Misfeeds Paper

Problem:

My Epson CX6400 pulls paper into the printer by grabbing the right side first. It then jams. Paper can only be pulled out from the back. This now happens every time.

I have turned the printer upside down and slapped it on the bottom. No bits of paper come out. I tried a sheet of paper of greater weight. Same thing happens but I notice a "notch" in the leading edge of the paper.

Solution(s)

There is most likely a foreign object in the paper path of your machine. This is confirmed by the notch in the leading edge of the paper. Often tipping it on it's back will dislodge the offender, but not always.

Tip the machine onto its back. Take an A4 sheet of thick card (the backing card off an A4 refill pad is good for this) and push it backward through the paper path. Start where the paper normaly comes out and feed the card backward through the exit rollers, and on toward the main feed rollers.

Don't go too far to the right side (wear the head "parks") as the paper sensor could get broken off. Persuade the card through the rollers and gently tease it in in out. Tip the machine on its back again so anything dislodged is encourage to come out.

Work the card in and out GENTLY taking care not to exert too much force, and avoid the sensor.

If nothing falls out, you may have to dismatle the machine to get to the ASF to manually remove the object. If you intend to dismantle the machine, get a manual from http://www.TheServiceManualShop.com to make sure you do it right without breaking anything.

Epson CX6400 Gaps in Print, Loss of Ink Nozzles

Problem:

I have a CX6400 Epson printer. I am getting gaps in my print outs when I do a test to see where the gaps are, they are in the cyan. I have cleaned the print heads several times and the gap is still there. Is there a way to do a more thorough cleaning on just the Cyan head?

Solution(s)

You can do a manual cleaning using some kitchen paper and a little solvent and a small plastic bag.

The first thing we need to do is get the head away from its parking position. Switch on the machine and when the head has moved away from its park position, remove the power lead.

With the top of the machine open, you should be able to move the print head carriage by hand.

Look to the right where the head carriage is normally parked and you should see the pump cap area. It will be a black looking spongy pad covered in ink.

Now take a piece of kitchen paper and fold it over a couple times to make a pad approx 3"x1". Now lay this pad over the top of the pump cap and fold the left edge down toward the base of the machine as in image one (the tissue is the yellow bit in the image)

Now take a syringe or similar and put some solvent into it. The solvent I use is JR Ink Jet Cartridge flush as seen on ebay and the like. If you have any ammoniated window cleaner like Windex you can use this. Put the solvent onto the tissue making it quite damp, but not totally soaked.

Manually move the print head GENTLY back to its park position. The pump cap will try to raise up to meet the bottom of the print head as you move it back. Be careful no to force it or you may break something.

What we are trying to do is bring the solvent dampened pad into contact with the print head. Once located, leave the pad for anything from 5 or 10 minutes through to 24 Hours whilst the solvent does its trick.

Now move the head away from park - again being gentle. You should now see the pad is a horrible black lump of mush. Pick it out and put it in the plastic bag ? where a glove or use tweezers or pliers.

Repeat the process again but this time let it to soak for just a few minutes. You should now see the individual ink colours soaking into the pad. If the pad is still black, repeat the process a couple more times.

Once you have some evidence of the individual colours you can run a head clean via the driver or printer control panel.

Then print a nozzle check sheet and if all has gone according to plan you should have a full complement of lines.

This method is applicable ONLY for loss of a few lines on the nozzle check sheet. If you have loss of all the lines in a single or multiple colours, you need to investigate further. It is possible that the pump has failed, the pipes are clogged or something else is causing the problem.

Epson CX6600 Loss of Ink Output to Paper

Problem:

I have an Epson CX6600 printer in which I have just changed the Yellow, Magenta and Cyan cartridges, the black is down to 15% but I can't change that yet. Anyway, before I changed the cartridges the printing was ok, well, what you would expect from cartridges about to give up the ghost, but now that it is fitted with new, full cartridges and I have done a purge - Nothing. The carriage goes through all the motions but no ink is deposited on the page.

Solution(s):

First thing to check is that if you are using compatible cartridges instead of the good stuff, ensure that any tape that needs to be removed from vents is taken off.

I have seen many a printer with carts installed still wearing the tape over the vents.

If you are using the good stuff, you may be experiencing a known issue with this (and similar) Epson models. Basically a small part can split and prevent vacuum from being formed to pull ink to the waste pads.

Epson CX6400 False Out of Paper Error

Problem:

My kids pulled a paper jam out of my printer, apparently the wrong way and probably damaged a sensor or something. Anyway, now the printer thinks it has no paper in the tray, but it does. Anyone know how can I fix this?

Most likely problem is that the feed roller has gone out of synch with the other parts. Wha6t you need to do is dismantle the machine and just realign the feed roller in the ASF. It sounds daunting, but it's really quite easy.

I suggest you get a service manual (http://www.TheServiceManualShop.com) and take the machine apart to allow access to the ASF.

Remove the ASF from the machine and simply turn the drive gears so the ASF goes through a full "paper feed" cycle. Once done the rubber feed wheel will come to rest with it's flat spot facing the cork pad and you can put it back together.

Whilst it's in pieces, check the paper sensor is still in tact. If it's broken you can glue it back together with superglue. If the broken part is lost you can make another one from another pice of plastic and glue it in place.

Once assembled, it should work fine.

Epson C4100 Jam at A When printing from cold

Problem:

I'm having problems with my C4100. Usually the first page after start up or after it has been in standby for a while. The page jams and it's like the page does not go through the fuser unit (where the powder is baked to the paper)
It's easy to know if there is a jam on the way because it can be heard. The printer sounds different just before it jams. When it spins up to speed the "whining" is very different if it is going to Jam. Error code is Jam A and when I open the printer the page is leaving the photo conductor unit and does not enter the fuser unit. After I clear the page and try again the printer usually sounds normal and prints very well.
The service staff, where I bought the printer, can't find whats wrong and recommend a change of MOBO and more..that does cost but they are not sure if that fixes anything (I feel like a test subject, they try, I pay).
Has anyone experienced this kind of failure? What can be done that does not cost as much as a new printer?? I'm now up to USD 300 and the failure still exists.

This is a known issue on certain AcuLaser C4100's for which Epson have released a countermeasure. The problem is related to a value in the printer firmware and only realy affects the machine when it is first switched on or has sat idle for a long time whilst powered on.

The fix requires a software tool to interogate the firmware and check a value. If this value is set to a certain figure it requires changing. The same software can change the value to rectify the issue.

Epson C64 Loss Of Ink Output to paper

Problem:

"My Epson Stylus C64 was working fine, but when I tried to print yesterday it went through the motions of printing but the paper always came out blank. I installed all new cartridges and also cleaned the heads many times but nothing works. It acts as if it lost its brain. I also notice that it used a lot of black ink during the cleaning. I also ran all the tests and nothing was printed out at all after cleaning the heads"

I feel I will just go out and get a new printer due to the fact that it is about 2 years old. I just will not get this brand again:)

It's probably not dead.

Are you using compatible cartridges? If so have you removed any tape that covers the vent hole if required. Many compatibles need to have a piece of tape removed. If you forget the ink cant get out as the air can't get in.

If it not a piece of tape and there are no flashing lights it could be that the nozzles are blocked or the wick has dried out.

You can do a manual cleaning using some kitchen paper and a little solvent and a small plastic bag.

That is the black plastic spike that sticks up and goes into the bottom of the ink cart when it is installed. Put a couple of drops in, put the cart back in and leave it for about 10 minutes. Then re-try 2 or 3 head cleans using the driver/status monitor.

Epson Stylus CX3800 False Paper Jam Error

It is possible that your machine has either a foreign object stuck in the feed path or that the paper sensor has got stuck or broken.

The best way to tell if something has entered the mechanism is to tip it on it back and give it a gentle shake or nudge. Then continue to turn it over (front to back) so that if anything was dislodged it should fall out of the back.

If nothing falls out, it may be necessary to partly dismantle the machine and physically check the state of the feed mechanism to see if there is something stuck, or if the sensor is broken.
