The best way to tell if something has entered the mechanism is to tip it on it back and give it a gentle shake or nudge. Then continue to turn it over (front to back) so that if anything was dislodged it should fall out of the back.
If nothing falls out, it may be necessary to partly dismantle the machine and physically check the state of the feed mechanism to see if there is something stuck, or if the sensor is broken.
If you need a service manual to be able to dismantle the printer check out http://www.TheServiceManualShop.com if they do not have it listed, they should be able to get it for you and they are very good value for money.
